A Snail Compound Has Been Found to Hope Cancer Patients

Scientists who have turned their eyes to nature in the fight against cancer and diseases in general have focused on a group of living things that are often overlooked for new solutions: Snails. A new anti-cancer compound has been found in the saliva of these creatures.

Nature contains many healing secrets within itself. As humans, we continue to explore these secrets. Finally, structures that can play an important role in the fight against cancer have been discovered in the mucus fluid secreted by the Australian sea snail.

Researchers from Southern Cross University, Flinders University, and Monash University, Australia, decided to examine how the white rock sea snail protects its eggs in that bacteria-rich geography. In the investigations, scientists discovered that the salivary structures secreted by animals protect the eggs.

On top of that, the researchers wondered how the same structure would behave when it encounters human cancer cells. Samples from human cancer cells were interacted with mucus. Indeed, cancer cells failed to survive in this structure. As a matter of fact, scientists began to examine the mechanism behind this situation.

As a result of studies on mouse subjects using mass spketometry, 6-Br was taken orally and had the opportunity to examine its movement in the cell.

In the experiment, it was discovered that the naturally occurring 6-Br-containing structure produces toxic by-products, but that 6-Br produced synthetically does not cause these substances to form. This study and another experiment conducted in 2016 revealed that sea snails can be effective in the fight against cancer. Thus, an alternative to chemotherapy can be created.

One of the researchers, Catherine Abbott, added that they are very excited about the results and hope to receive investments from the pharmaceutical industry to continue their research.
